Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards
2011 Award Winners
Council handed out its prestigious Moreland Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year 2011 awards at a ceremony on Australia Day, 26 January.
The award winners are:
- Mr Yong Wong, Moreland Citizen of the Year, pictured left, and
- Mr Anthony Cianflone, Moreland Young Citizen of the Year, pictured far right.
Moreland City Council publicly recognises the talents and achievements of its citizens.
An important part of Moreland’s Australia Day celebrations is the presentation of the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards.
The Moreland Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards honour local citizens who have shown a clear commitment to our local identity and an eagerness to contribute to the improvement and advancement of the Moreland community.

2012 nominations
Moreland City Council will call for nominations (DOC 3Mb) for the 2012 Moreland Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards from October to November.
The awards will be announced at a Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day, 26 January 2012.
Do you know someone who is very active in the community and demonstrates exceptional commitment? Perhaps you should nominate them for the Moreland Citizen or Moreland Young Citizen of the Year Awards. In selecting the award winners, the panel will be assessing the nominee’s eagerness to contribute to the improvement of the community, their commitment to civic responsibility and their participation in activities that benefit the community, amongst other criteria.

Eligibility for Awards
The Awards are open to all Australian citizens working, studying or living in Moreland.
The Young Citizen of the Year Award is open to people aged between 14 and 27 years of age as at Australia Day, 26 January in the year of presentation.
Those above 27 years of age are eligible for the Citizen of the Year Award.
Guidelines used in assessing the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards include:
- contribution to the improvement of the community
- commitment to civic responsibility
- demonstrated leadership
- commitment to activities that have short and long term benefits to others
- participation in community activities
- care and compassion towards improving the quality of life for others
- commitment to their family and local community, and
- achievements (areas of achievement could include school, sport, cultural activities, environmental or community groups).
