Christmas decorations add cheer
Media statement from Kirsten Coster, Director Economic Development
Wednesday 15 December 2010, Moreland City Council
Christmas decorations create a unique feeling within the community regardless of background or culture and Council is committed to an improvement program that builds on this. Aside from getting residents into the Christmas spirit they also serve to draw shoppers to the activity centres and stimulate Christmas shopping.
Currently Christmas decorations can be found along Lygon Street, Sydney Road Brunswick and Coburg, Bell Street, Melville Road, Glenroy Precinct, Snell Grove Oak Park, Bonwick Street Fawkner, West Street Glenroy, Brunswick and Coburg Town Halls, Glenroy Library and Mechanics Institute in Brunswick.
Council allocated $130,000 in the capital works budget for purchasing new Christmas decorations and $100,000 for installation and dismantling and a further $12,000 for trader association.
Dovecoat Design was appointed, using a public tender process, to manage the sourcing, purchase and supply of the decorations in order to ensure that they were top quality and durable. The contractor was also paid to manage the installation and dismantling of decorations and making sure all safety and traffic management requirements were met.
Dovecoat Design is considered a leader in this industry and is employed by a number of councils across Melbourne.
We wish the community a very merry Christmas and we hope that the decorations currently available add that extra bit of cheer to the festive season.
