Melanie Jayne Taylor's practice is largely concerned with the complex function of memory through the photographic image. A room for ordering memory features a new series of neglected, anonymous and weathered environments, which focus on vistas and scenes in which a human presence is implied rather than represented.
The picturing of temporary structures, interior views, changing landscapes both natural and urban, form part of an ongoing project that considers the aesthetics of ruin, our relationship to place, and the slippery nature of memory in recollections of the past.

First and Last is a dynamic group exhibition that addresses notions of the unfamiliar, and the uncharted, of frontiers crossed and conquered, imagined and unknown. Presented by Brunswick Arts Space, First and Last takes its inspiration from the hotel of the same name on Boundary Road, Hadfield, where historically it was the first and last establishment before leaving or entering town.
The exhibition explores a number of themes including ritual observance of funeral ceremonies, journeys into unknown territories, and ideas of transience and impermanence that are central to the various cycles of life. These ideas are brought together through sound installation, photography, drawing and video to suggest a wry and poignant vision of contemporary social phenomena.
