Steps in a planning permit application
There are a number of steps to get a planning permit. You may not need to do all steps.
Step 1
Pre-application meeting: The first step is always to have a meeting about your proposal with Council’s Urban Planning officers before you lodge the paperwork. This helps you to work out what you need to lodge, lets you know about any problems with your proposal and saves time later on.
Step 2
Submit the application: Now you are ready to give the paperwork to Council you need to check you have all the right forms and plans.
Step 3
Further Information Requests: Council may ask you for more information.
Step 4
Advertising of the application: Council will usually let people in your area know about the application.
Step 5
Objections: People may disagree with the plans and object to the application.
Step 6
Consultation meetings: Sometimes there is a meeting with the Ward Councillors, the applicant and objectors to talk about the proposal.
Step 7
Urban Planning Committee meeting: Sometimes the Urban Planning Committee will decide on an application at a formal meeting.
Step 8
Council’s decision: Council can make 3 different types of decision about an application.
