Planning permits - advice for buyers
Prospective buyers of multi unit developments/land use development
Council encourages prospective buyers of multi unit developments to attend Councils offices at 90 Bell Street Coburg to view the Planning Permit and endorsed plans.
In accordance with Section 70 of the Planning and Environment act 1987, buyers can view plans prior to purchase. Copies of plans and permits attract a fee.
Section 70 Planning and Environment Act 1987
Availability of permit
The responsible authority must make a copy of every permit that it issues available at its office for inspection by any person during office hours free of charge.
Advice to Buyers
You should check the endorsed plans and the planning permit thoroughly to ensure these match what has been constructed. Once the property is sold to you, you are then responsible for any discrepancies and ensuring that the property complies with the endorsed plans and permits.
The only option available to you once you have purchased the property is to take civil action against the responsible builder.
Further information regarding viewing plans or permits is available by contacting Council’s Urban Development Branch on 9240 1111
