Children with additional needs
Inclusion Support Program for kindergarten children
Council's Preschool Field Officers support children with additional needs to access and participate in kindergartens.
A "preschool" is the same as a kindergarten.
The Preschool Field Officer:
- observes and assesses children with developmental concerns
- refers children for more specialised assessment
- consults with preschool staff on planning, implementing and reviewing developmentally appropriate programs, and
- links to community and specialist supports for children with additional needs and their families.
Inclusion Support Program for childcare programs
Council's Inclusion Support Facilitators (ISFs) work with childcare program staff to ensure all children are welcomed and included, in particular:
- children from cultural and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds including refugee and Australian South Sea Islander children
- children with ongoing high support needs including children with a disability, and
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Council's Inclusion Support Facilitators work with these Commonwealth funded programs:
- long day care
- family day care
- primary school holiday program
- before and after school care
- occasional care, and
- in home care.
