Cameras
Recycle outdated and unwanted cameras and accessories. Any equipment collected that is still in good working order will be donated to charity or for educational purposes. Visit Camera Recycle for drop off locations.
Car parts
Transfer stations take doors, bonnets and frames.
Second-hand car parts dealers or scrap metal recyclers may accept parts. Check the Yellow Pages.
Cardboard
Residential cardboard collection
- Put flattened cardboard or boxes in your Council recycling bin. Council only collects cardboard inside the recycling bin.
- Waxed boxes are not accepted for recycling. Fold and put into your rubbish bin.
Non-residential cardboard collection
Businesses or organisations with a 120 litre recycling bin can put cardboard in their recycling bin.
- Council's Commercial Plus recycling service has 240 litre garbage and recycling bins and recycles larger volumes of cardboard.
- For regular cardboard recycling through a private contractor, check recycling services in the Yellow Pages.
- Drop large amounts of cardboard at a transfer station.
Cartons from milk and juice
Place milk and juice cartons in the kerbside recycling bin.
Cartridges
You can refill or remanufacture some printer cartridges. Check with the manufacturer.
Drop off used cartridges through the Cartridges 4 Planet Ark program or Australia Post, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Tandy and Dick Smith Electronics. The Recycling near you website has the nearest drop-off.

CDs
Drop off unwanted CDs and DVDs at Coburg Civic Centre, or post directly to Gram destruction who will accept small quantities of CDs, DVDs, computer disks and video tapes for recycling free of charge. For details call 9338 0074 or email Gram destruction.
Ceramics
Ceramics must not be placed in recycling bins as they contaminate the glass.
Donate unwanted cups and saucers to a charity shop. Wrap broken ceramic cups in newspaper and place in the household garbage bin.
Chemicals - household
Leftover and unwanted chemicals and products containing hazardous materials need to be disposed of safely. Visit a Detox Your Home mobile collection for the free and safe disposal of a wide range of household chemicals.
Christmas trees
Natural Christmas trees can be recycled through Council's fortnightly green waste bin collection or dropped off at a transfer station.
Cut trees to a maximum length of 90 centimetres and a maximum diameter of 10 centimetres.
Clean Up Australia Day
Clean Up Australia Day is every year in March. Volunteer at the Clean Up Australia Day website. If you register a site with Clean Up Australia Day, contact Council and we will collect the rubbish from the site.
Clothes

Place unwanted clothing in charity bins. Leaving clothing around bins is illegal.
Compost
Compost is decomposed organic material. It is added to the garden to improve soil and provide minerals and nutrients to plants. Compost can be made at home in a compost bin. Composting saves organic materials from being sent to landfill where they produce methane, a dangerous greenhouse gas. Most household rubbish bins contain at least 30% - 40% compostable material.
Council sells compost bins for $49.50 and delivers anywhere in Moreland for free.
Computers
Recycle computers for parts and materials at companies like:
A free computer take-back program called Byteback is also available at Darebin Resource Recovery Centre and Moonee Valley Transfer Station. The program is open to all residents and small businesses across Victoria. A maximum of ten computers applies. For more information visit Byteback.
Concrete
Recycled concrete is used in building and road construction. Take used concrete to a transfer station. Charges may apply.
Cork
- Guides Victoria collects wine corks and recycles them into different products.
- Friends of the the Zoo (FOTZ) also recycle corks. Take corks to Elliot Avenue, Parkville from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. FOTZ pick up large numbers of corks.
- GP Embelton in Coburg recycle 300 kilograms or more of corks.
