Recycling

Recycling not only saves valuable resources being sent to landfill it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and saves water in the production of new materials.

Council offers a weekly kerbside recycling service for residents, as well as businesses, organisations and schools paying the waste charge.

The following materials can be recycled via this service:

  • aluminium cans and foil (cleaned)
  • cartons (fruit juice and milk, including foil-lined)
  • glass (clear, green and brown)
  • plastic containers (with identification codes 1-7)
  • paper (envelopes, magazines, office paper, newspapers, phone books)
  • cardboard (flattened and placed inside the bin - waxed cardboard not accepted)
  • steel (cans , empty aerosol tins)

Loosely place materials inside the bin, never put them in a plastic bag as they will not be recycled.

Recyling near you

Many materials that can't be recycled via your kerbside recycling bin can be recycled elsewhere. If the materials you are wanting to recycle aren't listed in these pages try the Recycling Near You website, an online guide to recycling. You can search either by product or by  Council area.
