Paper

Office paper can be recycled through Council's weekly kerbside recycling collection.

Businesses, organisations and schools with large volumes of paper for recycling, can take up Council's Commercial Plus recycling service, based on a 240-litre recycling bin, offering as many collections per week as required subject to the payment of a fee

Arrange an office paper recycling collection through a private contractor. Sustainability Victoria website has a search of paper recyclers.

Look at ways to reduce the paper you use by photocopying double-sided or using scrap paper for note pads.

Paint and paint tins

Empty paint tins can be recycled in your kerbside recycling bin. Tins containing paint can be taken to a Detox Your Home Permanent Drop-off Facility. The nearest centre for Moreland residents is the Darebin Resource Recovery Centre. It is free.

Take large amounts of paint to the drop-off facility at Enviro Chem, 104 Merola Way, Campbellfield. Collection service available for large quantities. Charges apply. No explosives or gas cylinders.

Phone books

You can cancel the delivery of phone books to your home by visiting the Sensis website. Old phone books can be recycled in your kerbside recycling bin.

Plastics

Council accepts all rigid plastic containers in Council's recycling bin. This includes soft drink and milk bottles, maragrine tubs, ice cream tubs, laundry liquid bottles, soap bottles, yoghurt and dairy containers.

Council also now accepts flexible plastics in the kerbside recycling bin. This includes:

  • plastic bags
  • plastic packaging
  • plastic wrap
  • polysteyrene (code 6 EPS)

Please ensure all items are placed loosely in the recycling bin and not bagged.

Plastic bags

Plastic bags can now be recycled in your recycling bin. Place them loosley in your recycling bin as with other items.

Plastic bags are one of the most littered items in Moreland. Avoid plastic bags by taking your own shopping bag. Purchase reusable bags at supermarkets and other stores.

Do not place your recyclables inside plastic bags in your recycling bin as the materials inside the bag cannot be recovered and will be sent to landfill.

Polystyrene

Products made from polystyrene (code 6 EPS) for example fruit and vegie boxes, meat trays and coffee cups are now accepted for recycling in Council's recycling bin.

For large quantities of polystyrene contact the following companies:

Some transfer stations also accept polysteyrene for recycling.
