Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day volunteers picking up rubbish along a roadClean Up Australia Day is on Sunday 4 March 2012.

Clean Up Australia Day is Australia's largest community-based environmental event.

Each year on Clean Up Australia Day, volunteers collect rubbish from parks, waterways, nature reserves and bushland. Last year 565,510 volunteers cleaned up over 16,454 tonnes of rubbish from 7,479 sites across Australia.

If you want to register a site make sure you do it at least two weeks before the event. Clean Up Australia will send bags, gloves and other equipment directly by post but it can take up to two weeks to for these to be delivered.

Register your interest

If you would like to register a site you must visit the Clean Up Australia Day website or call 1800 CUA DAY (1800 282 329). After you register your site with Clean Up Australia Day, contact Council and we will arrange to pick up the rubbish from your site.

You can also register to volunteer in a registered site in your neighbourhood on the Clean Up Australia Day website

Council and Clean Up Australia Day

Business Clean Up Day

The 2012 Business Clean Up Day will be on Tuesday 28 February 2012. Businesses can register a site to clean up and conserve their local environment, either at their own workplace or further afield. The event inspires businesses to work towards improving their environmental impact as well as being a great team building exercise. In 2011 over 500 business sites registered, demonstrating that environmental action also makes business sense. Visit the Clean Up Australia Day website for more details.

Schools Clean Up Day

The 2012 Schools Clean Up Day will be on Friday 2 March 2012. Schools can register a clean up site at the Clean Up Australia Day website. Participating schools will receive;

  • Schools Clean Up Kit, containing: rubbish and recycling bags, gloves, posters, certificates
  • Your own unique Schools Clean Up Day webpage
  • Access to Educational Resources including: Schools Climate Kit (including state based lesson plans for teachers) and Clean Up the River - an interactive recycligng game.

Last year's Clean Up involved more than 470,000 students across 2,100 schools Australia wide. Inspiring children to care for the environment is a vital part of Clean Up Australia.  Since 1992 Schools Clean Up Day has allowed school students to participate in Clean Up Australia as part of their school community.

Clean up the world

After gaining the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Clean Up the World was launched in 1993. Clean Up the World involves about 30 million people in 80 countries.
