Most people think dumping rubbish and littering is ok.

Reality

WRONG: 52% of people surveyed felt very comfortable or comfortable reporting someone who is littering.

What else do Victorians think about dumping and littering?

• Around 80% of Victorians believed imposing fines was appropriate for those that litter.
• Around 60% of people knew it was illegal to leave unwanted items by the roadside or in a bush area.
• Around 65% believed that fines for litterers and dumpers should be tougher.

And reporting dumpers?

• Around 60% of people knew it was illegal to leave unwanted items by the roadside or in a bush area.
• Over 50% of people said they would be likely to report someone for leaving unwanted items.
• In fact, when it comes to reporting, these are the two areas that Victorians were most likely to feel comfortable reporting.
• Report dumped rubbish or littering online to Council or over the phone.
