No parking on nature strips
Victorian Road Rules say you cannot park a vehicle on a nature strip, a footpath or a centre strip that divides a street.
It is illegal to park on a nature strip, footpath or centre strip to:
- clean your vehicle
- repair your vehicle
- prevent damage to your vehicle, or
- because you can't find a parking space.
Why you can't park on a nature strip
- Drivers entering or exiting a driveway cannot see approaching pedestrians, especially children.
- It may damage the water and gas supply lines, storm water drainage pipes, and sewerage pipes under the nature strip. The damage to a nature strip by a parked vehicle is worse during wet weather.
Fines for parking on a nature strip, footpath or centre strip
Council or the Victorian Police can fine you for parking in on a nature strip, footpath of centre strip.
