A crossover permit - building a driveway
If you are building, altering or repairing a driveway you will need to contact Council to obtain a Crossover Permit.
A permit is required as driveways are built on Council land and Council needs to ensure the crossing is properly constructed and to specification. Other Council property may be damaged during the installation of the vehicle crossing and Council needs to ensure this damage is repaired.
Obtaining a permit
To obtain a permit, applicants firstly need to contact Council's Operations Centre on 8311 4300 to arrange a suitable day for Council to conduct an onsite preliminary inspection. The inspection officer will contact you to arrange a specific time for the inspection.
During the preliminary inspection the Council officer will assess your application and provide you with all necessary information including an invoice which provides payment options (including the internet). Please note that additional information or site changes may be required prior to Council granting approval for the new crossing. Additional fees and charges may also be payable for the removal and/or replacement of street trees impacted by the construction of the new crossing.
Pre Pour Inspection
Once approval has been granted the permit holder can excavate and prepare the vehicle crossing. Before commencing the concrete pour, you must contact Council's Operations Centre on 8311 4300 to arrange a pre pour inspection. Pouring of the new crossover must not commence prior to this inspection and the inspection will only take place once all permit fees and charges have been paid.
Final Inspection
Council will inspect the property after the works have been carried out to ensure that they meet Council specifications. Any damage to Council assets needs to be repaired to Council satisfaction and at the permit holders expense.
Crossover permits incur a fee which is adjusted yearly. For the 2011/12 financial year the fee is $172.
