Current ground conditions
Water restrictions
Sports grounds are presently entitled to an annual irrigation allocation of 3ML per hectare of irrigated area. Moreland Council has a total area of 66 hectares; Council's allocation for 2010-2011 will be 198 ML. It is up to Council's Open Space Department's discretion as to how this allocation is proportioned across facilities to meet organisational needs and expectations. Open Space will be required to submit a monthly allocation report.
Graffiti removal kits
Council has recently been granted funding from the State Government’s Justice Department to help community groups remove graffiti from their buildings and around the grounds, including sponsorship signage.
Council is offering free graffiti kits as well as other options to help community groups.
A Council officer will visit the site and supply the appropriate kit for the surface that requires cleaning.
McDonald Reserve
Due to Yarra Valley Water’s McDonald Reserve scheduled works beginning in November 2011, Council is not in a position to allocate the ground for the 2011/2012 summer season. The ground was previously allocated to St Francis de Sales Cricket Club who will now be allocated Cole Reserve South for the 2011/2012 summer season.
DeChene Reserve
DeChene Reserve is one of five park upgrade project sites throughout the City of Moreland this current financial year. Works at De Chene Reserve include an upgrade to the passive parkland (south of the oval), incorporating picnic and play space, together with additional landscaping and footpaths. The scope of works for the De Chene project will also include renovation to the existing sports ground.
Accommodating the rapid growth in Soccer's popularity, particularly among juniors, is challenging with clubs exceeding their capacity. Due to the high levels of demand, Council will be upgrading the sports ground at De Chene Reserve to be a soccer facility.
Council will be inviting a closed Expressions of Interest (EOI) from football (soccer) clubs who access facilities in Moreland for the future annual tenancy of the De Chene Reserve Soccer Facility.
Civil works for the renovation of the oval will commence as soon as the expression of interest process is completed and for the commencement of the 2013 season.
